A day’s colours

A day’s colours

Upon the silent laundry mirror

With shaving cream on my cheeks, chin, neck

I took in the outside through the window

Pondered this scene –

Twink foam clung to my olive skin, like

Dew on the flax bushes.

Wet taupe cloth stuck to my

Skin with a shiver – squeezed remnants fell

Into the steel sink…

Drum drum drum.

In pastel-blue checks and chalk-grey pants

I took from the fridge the bag spilling with

Fruits, sandwiches, and a strawberry Up&Go.

Through the fresh azure

On the mango-green bus I left

Trailed by chirping tūī, kākā and blackbirds.

Sunk into the black leather couch

In my green Nike top and calm tropical shorts

I laid back in the lamp-glow

Listened to the crickets

Closed my eyes...

Flew through the colours of the day.
